In February we went up to Sapporo for the Yuuki Matsuuri (Snow Festival).
Ice sculptures:
Most countries had amazing, intricate ice sculptures, like China's dragon:
And then there was New Zealand's entry: A kiwi, wearing ski goggles, holding a beer, surrounded by shells. COME on!! It was so embarrassing.
And made our way to the Sapporo beer museum:
Of course we had to sample it. (Yes Ellie, I know I look like Mum here)
And back out into the streets for a snow fight. We also did lamb tabe-hodai (all you can eat) at a "Genghis Khan" BBQ, but I was too excited at the sight of meat to take photos. I did end up feeling really ill though.
And visited the fish market...
One of these huge crabs cost about 10,000 yen (about $NZ200)
We also went to a national park, I forgot the name, but we both had such bad colds by that time that it wasn't much fun. Also, we got there just as the sun was nearly gone, and the guide spent the last minute of sunset telling us which shop we should go and get a hot drink from, so we missed it.
