Tokyo New Years

Off to the big city!

Akihabara, Electric Town:

We went to a "Meido Cafe". Super cute Japanese girls who talk like adult babies serve you hot chocolates or egg omelettes on rice, and do magic spells that make everything yummy and cute. If you're really lucky (you pay extra) this school band/army music starts playing and they talk into a loud-hailer excitedly for about 10 minutes. Photos are not allowed (pay extra), so we did Marieke proud and took one from their poster.

More furtive photography...

Meiji Jingu shrine in Yoyogi park. The year of the cow:

Shopping was difficult around New Years. Everyone was so keen to take advantage of the sales that the lines went out onto the streets. Their shops had bouncers:

Then we made our way toward the Shinjuku crossing for the New Year's countdown.

Yuck. (Yes, he was American)

Nice!

Whenever the lights changed, people surged all over the place.

These little guys in red were supposed to be crowd control, but they were just so cute.

And then it was off to Osaka...
